# Nitrite

Urine Nitrite is a measure of the amount of nitrite in the urine. The presence of nitrite in the urine may indicate a urinary tract infection.

## iollo markers that associate with Nitrite

### Arginine

Arginine is the precursor for nitric oxide synthesis. Nitric oxide can be oxidized to form nitrite. Higher arginine availability may increase nitric oxide production and nitrite levels.

### Asymmetric dimethylarginine

ADMA is an endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase. Higher ADMA levels can suppress nitric oxide production from arginine, potentially leading to reduced nitrite levels.

### Ornithine

Ornithine and citrulline can be interconverted in the urea cycle. Changes in ornithine levels may impact citrulline and downstream nitric oxide and nitrite production.
