# Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO)

Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) is an enzyme involved in the production of thyroid hormones. The presence of TPO antibodies can indicate an autoimmune thyroid condition such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

### Phenylalanine

Phenylalanine is converted to tyrosine, which is then used for thyroid hormone synthesis catalyzed by TPO. Abnormalities in phenylalanine metabolism could theoretically influence downstream tyrosine availability and TPO-mediated thyroid hormone production.

### Tyrosine

Tyrosine is a precursor for thyroid hormone synthesis. Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) is an enzyme that catalyzes iodination of tyrosine residues in thyroglobulin for the production of thyroid hormones T3 and T4. Alterations in tyrosine levels could potentially impact TPO activity and thyroid function.
